Support for Care App Launch

Written by Active Minds on Monday the 13th of April 2020.

2020 marked an important advancement for Active Minds, with the launch of our brand-new Support for Care App. Designed to make activity idea generation and reporting easier, the app can help families and activity coordinators in care homes spend time more effectively.

Support for Care uses answers provided by activity coordinators, based on responses from the residents, to suggest a range of other suitable dementia care activities based on their abilities, preferences and needs.

The App

Developed over 18 months, we have worked closely with care homes and those living with dementia to help provide a range of new and enjoyable activities. It can be common for activities to be reused, and we want to help provide new and suitable activities for those living with dementia.

Reporting for Care Homes

Currently, activity coordinators and nurses within care homes may have to complete a range of paperwork surrounding activities within the care home, with manual reports curated based on residents’ responses and behaviour. Support for Care allows for quick and easy reporting helping to save time and easily input required information.

There has been a shift towards digitisation within the care industry, and we believe the Support for Care app will aid in supporting care homes into their digitised journey by managing time more effectively whilst providing enjoyable activities for residents.

 How it works

  • Support for Care has a huge library of activities, which can keep the activity programme fresh and reduce planning time for activity coordinators.
  • Pool Activity Level (PAL) is a quick questionnaire which helps to assess the needs of the person, and Smart Search can deliver the right activity for each resident based on answers.
  • Reporting features allow for quick and effective reports to be generated around how many residents were involved in the activity, how they responded to it, and benefits of the activity.
  • Care home managers can gain insight into activities happening within the homes using the reports generated, allowing them to make proactive decisions surrounding a residents’ responses.
  • There is also a range of tips from industry specialists such as National Activity Providers Association (NAPA).
