Greensleeves Care roll out the Complete Kit across all 20 of their locations

Background

Greeneleeves Care offers award-winning residential and nursing care across England. One of the key areas which the care charity invested in has been the development of engagement and interaction for people living with dementia. In addition to the planned activities put on by Greensleeeves’ activity coordinators, the charity looked at options which would help them promote spontaneous activity in the evenings and at weekends.

Challenges

-  Creating a simple standard of spontaneous activity across 20 homes

-  Individuals with dementia struggle to participate in some activities

-  Activities often delivered by one person

-  Regulatory requirements for service to be ‘responsive’ to individualized needs

Action

Greensleeves Care partnered with Active Minds in January 2016 and rolled out the Active Minds Complete Kit across their entire portfolio of care homes. This was kicked off in style by a day of NAPA training for Greensleeves Care staff on how to organise spontaneous activities using the activity kit provided by Active Minds.

  • 77% felt more activity was now available to residents who previously could not participate
  • 70% recorded reduction in boredom and frustration in the residents
  • 65% of homes had an increase in staff participating in activity
  • 83% felt the kit would help them evidence ‘person centred’ care

I am impressed with the content and quality of Active Minds’ activity boxes. The boxes contain easy to use activities making them accessible to anyone. In my view every care home should have access to these activity boxes
